The Show Garden was designed to evoke summer in country Victoria – the heat, the endless dry, yellow-brown fields, glaucous green.  And to create an oasis within that context, drawing on Mediterranean influences, having regard to geographic and climatic similarities.

It was intended that this garden would be seen not simply as a Show Garden but as inspiration for country gardens in today’s climatic conditions.  It was to display productive and ornamental plants, treating them equally from a design and aesthetic perspective. The plant palette had been chosen based on experience over many years in Central Victoria using plants that will not only cope but thrive in the harsh conditions, and look stunning.
